Personal Reaction:
Roselily:
the story hit me like a poem/dream. It resembled the life of a low
class female who in our time and day could resemble a runaway. She
dreams of what she does not have, but at the same time, she wants to
have her dream. She is struggling to find security in life through a
husband that makes her happy
Literary
Element /Thematic Analysis:
Walker's
short story is a series of segways between beginnings and endings.
She juxtaposes the first and last lines of a marriage ceremony over
the internal dialogue and inward decision of Roselily and shows the
reasonings and possible consequences of Roselily's decision to marry
a man she does not truly love.
Questions:
Do
you think the father of the forth child paid Roselily for Sex?
I thought paid her for sex. i agreed with your response. it's interesting that she desires a dream even in the times she feels loveless. Oh and one quick note. I can't see your text. maybe you can change your background? :)
ReplyDeleteI like your point that the story is like a beginning and endings since the bride’s conflict includes being a single mom, having different fathers to her children, indiscretions, and family and societal pressures. Her response to the conflict is to marry this willing person and have a life a woman of her time is supposed to do, which is rear children and not work. To respond to your question, I don’t believe she got paid for sex, but I do believe that she may be a beguiling irresponsible woman as she certainly did not have problems bedding men or getting one to marry her even with all her baggage.
ReplyDeleteI don't think she was giving away sex for money. I just think she slept with whoever she wanted and got pregnant by accident. She doesn't seem very responsible for a woman with four children!
ReplyDeleteI don’t think he paid her for sex, I think they were having an affair. Maybe his wife couldn’t carry a baby naturally so once Roselily became pregnant he thought of raising the baby with his wife. He knew Roselily couldn’t afford to take care of the child on her own so maybe he paid her to let him raise the child?
